| Attractions in the Local Area Caldbeck Village and the Northern Fells are situated on the northern edge of the Lake District National Park and there are some superb walks to be had in the area. Carrock Fell and High Pike, in fact all of the hills at the "Back o' Skidda'", including Blencathra and Skiddaw itself, are within easy reach, and there are many more gentle walks to be had around the village area.
For those of you interested in Geology and Mining, there are many places to visit with old mineral mines dating back several centuries, now blending into the nearby hills and also Carrock Fell with its famous unusual rocks and minerals.
There is the annual Hesket Newmarket Agricultural Show held in early September which is is always very popular with locals and visitors alike. A celebration of the finest of agricultural traditions with top class livestock, horse and dog sections and it boasts one of the finest exhibitions of animals anywhere in the North of England.
The more popular parts of the Lake District, such as Ullswater and Keswick, are only 20 minutes drive away. The Central & Southern Lakeland area including Windermere, Ambleside and Grasmere are also easily accessible from the village.
The Caldbeck area is also ideally situated for touring the Scottish Border Country where the Roman Emperor Hadrian built his famous wall to keep out the marauding Picts and Scots. Much of Hadrian's Wall and the forts can be still seen today. Also border castles and peel towers can be seen in this area.
The city of Carlisle with its Market and shops is only 13 miles away, together with its historic Castle, Cathedral and Tullie House Museum, as well as the famous Race Course.
Rheged, situated near Penrith - Named after Cumbria's Celtic Kingdom, Rheged is Europe's largest grass covered building and a winner of the global "BA Tourism for Tomorrow Awards" - situated only 20 minutes away.
The beautiful Eden Valley & North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) are also within easy reach of Caldbeck.
