The Caldbeck area is also ideally situated for touring the Scottish Border Country where the Roman Emperor Hadrian built his famous wall to keep out the marauding Picts and Scots. Much of Hadrian's Wall and the forts can be still seen today. Also border castles and peel towers can be seen in this area.
The city of Carlisle with its Market and shops is only 13 miles away, together with its historic Castle, Cathedral and Tullie House Museum, as well as the famous Race Course.
The market town of Cockermouth - which became famous in November 2009 for the unbelievable floods - has now been revamped and completely recovered. It is only a 20 minutes drive from most locations. It has a fantastic array of shops, restaurants, cafes and other attractions such as Jennings Brewery and Wordworth House - the childhood home of the poet William Wordsworth and now in the hands of the National Trust.
Rheged, situated near Penrith - Named after Cumbria's Celtic Kingdom, Rheged is Europe's largest grass covered building and a winner of the global "BA Tourism for Tomorrow Awards" - situated only 20 minutes away.

The Solway Coast AONB is accessible via Wigton if you fancy some coastal landscapes and walking. The coast has an abundance of amazing natural landscapes and is renowned for its spectacular sunsets.
