The Old Crown at Hesket Newmarket

CAMRA SOLWAY BRANCH PUB OF THE SEASON SPRING 2010

The Old Crown nestles in the beautiful fellside village of Hesket Newmarket and has done for generations. The pub is unique in that it is owned by a co-operative, made up of villagers, other locals and a cross section of real ale lovers from across the globe.

The Co-operative is dedicated to maintaining the essential character of the pub and the new tenants - Keith & Edna Graham and Joanne Richardson - are working hard to preserve the old pub's reputation for a warm welcome, good food and real ale.

The Old Crown serves the very best real ales, all brewed by the Hesket Newmarket Brewery which stands at the rear of the pub, excellent bar meals, freshly made with locally sourced produce.

Our range of real ales includes:

Helvellyn Gold
A.B.V. c4.0%. Straw coloured, with a hoppy aroma and a pleasant bitterness.

Blencathra Bitter
A.B.V. c3.2%. A dark ruby traditional bitter, malty throughout with a good lasting bitterness.

Skiddaw Special Bitter
A.B.V. c3.7%. A 'spritzy' refreshing session beer with a well balanced full flavoured palate.

Doris' 90th Birthday Ale
A.B.V. c4.3%. A glorious, full flavoured, fruity premium beer. Originally brewed in 1989 to celebrate the 90th birthday of Liz's mother.

Old Carrock Ale
A.B.V. c6.0%. A dark red, delicious strong ale, beguilingly smooth and definitely dangerous.

Great Cockup Porter
A.B.V. c3.0%. Nearly black, with a dark malty flavour and a smooth bitterness.

Catbells Pale Ale
A.B.V. c5.0%. Beware - this refreshing, easy to drink pale ale could readily catch you out.

We also have special 'seasonal ales' e.g. Autumn Chestnut (A.B.V. 4.7%), and a Strong Spicy Doris Xmas Pudding ale (A.B.V. 5.8%).
