Where is Caldbeck?

Caldbeck is on the B5299 about 13 miles south west of Carlisle, on the northern edge of the Lake District National Park.

The village lies almost equidistant (circa 16 miles) from Keswick, Penrith, Cockermouth and Carlisle and can be easily reached from all major roads.

There is a free National Park Car Park close to the centre of the village, at the start of the walk to the Howk.

Directions from Penrith:

From Penrith, exit M6 at Junction 41 (Wigton turnoff), and take the B5305 NW towards Wigton. About a mile past Sebergham, turn left onto the B5299 and follow into Caldbeck.

Directions from Carlisle:

Follow the B5299 south from Carlisle, through Dalston, over the B5305 and continue into Caldbeck.

Directions from Cockermouth:

Follow the A595 NE towards Carlisle. A couple of miles beyond Bothel, take the B5299 E and continue until you reach Caldbeck.

Directions from Keswick:

From Keswick, take the A591 towards Bothel and Carlisle. At the Castle Inn crossroads, turn right towards Uldale. Continue straight through Uldale village following signs for Caldbeck.

Turn right onto B5299 after 2 miles and follow this road into Caldbeck.

Caldbeck is perfectly situated for exploring the Lake District, Scottish Borders, Eden Valley and North Pennines, and also Hadrian's Wall.

The villages of Ireby (6 miles), Uldale (5 miles) and Hesket Newmarket (1.5 miles) are close by.

Quietly hidden away in the Northern Fells of the Lake District, yet with quick easy access to all these locations, the Caldbeck and Northern Fells area is a great place to spend some time and relax.
